The best roast I’ve ever eaten.

image“The best roast I’ve ever eaten”; that’s not an accolade I give lightly. But, The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer on King Street, Bristol has yet to be surpassed. It is my favourite pub in Bristol for many reasons; a beer and ale menu from British brewers that changes daily,  locally-sourced ingredients for the impressive daily menu, a roaring wood-burning fire, local musicians live at the weekend, and friendly, knowledgeable staff. But, it is their triple roast that drives me to rave about this pub to my friends; simply sublime!

I think of dieting, then I eat pizza.

Wednesday. The hump of the week. Over halfway to the weekend. A perfect evening for a spot of pizza. Of the homemade variety.

imageIt has become somewhat of a tradition that when Holly comes round for a catch up we also rustle up some pizza too. There’s very little more satisfying on a cold evening than a crispy base, garlicky tomato sauce and lashings of choice toppings.

Tonight I had a classic combination of spinach, cherry tomatoes, red onion and mozzarella on my quick-to-make base. It was simply sublime and went down an absolute treat whilst watching Gogglebox. Watching people watch television; it is such a simple programme. But it had Holly and I laughing outlandishly at regularly, yet also brought me to tears when replaying a video from Sport Relief where an elderly man relived his life with his wife and her demise under the influence of Alzheimer’s.
